The Servus Edmonton Marathon logo captures the city's deep connection with the environment, water, and nature, while honouring those who came before us and those who will walk and run with us now and in the future. It pays homage to previous marathon logos while introducing new elements of Indigenous culture, voices, and meaning. Central to the logo is a stopwatch, symbolizing the time and dedication each runner invests in themselves and their community. Surrounding it are various elements, including an element of a First Nation Medicine Wheel for guidance and healing, the feather and buffalo for resilience and appreciation of one's journey, and the eagle for the stories of perseverance and victory. The Saskatchewan River and grass reflect Edmonton's diverse landscape and interconnectedness, while the three trees symbolize growth and support within the running community. The sun within a clear space represents clarity, focus, and gratitude. This logo is a testament to the spirit of the marathon, honouring Indigenous Peoples and Culture within Treaty Six and beyond, and the shared path of every runner.
Look Inside!

-
In the center of the logo, a stopwatch stands tall, representing the time and dedication each runner invests in themselves and their community. Surrounding this central figure are various elements that tell a deeper story.
-
A First Nation Medicine Wheel: On the left side, a partial red frame symbolizes the Medicine Wheel, an important Indigenous teaching tool. The Medicine Wheel offers guidance and healing, among many other teachings, much like running does for our physical, mental, and spiritual health. It reminds us that running is good medicine, helping us find balance and strength.
-
The Feather and Buffalo: At the bottom of the logo, a feather is depicted, connected to the frame. Behind the feather, an outline of a buffalo faces west, looking back at its journey. This symbolizes the appreciation runners have for their own journeys, acknowledging where they came from and the path they have traveled. The buffalo, a sacred animal, represents resilience and endurance, qualities that every marathon runner embodies.
-
The Eagle: The feather is symbolic of the eagle, a bird that carries many stories within it. Just as the eagle soars high, carrying the wisdom of the skies, runners carry their own stories of perseverance and victory.
-
The Saskatchewan River and Grass: Above the buffalo outline flows the Saskatchewan River, with grass above it, reflecting Edmonton's diverse landscape. These elements represent the interconnectedness of nature and the environment, reminding us that while we may train independently, we come together during the marathon, united in solidarity, community, strength, and perseverance.
-
The Three Trees: On the left side, three trees of different heights stand connected, symbolizing growth, succession planning, and endurance. These trees represent the idea that while we may race against one another, we are part of a larger group that supports each other and paves the way for the next generation of athletes.
-
The Sun and Clear Space: To the left, a sun shines within a clear space, symbolizing clarity, focus, and gratitude. This space represents the moment of competition, the dedication to push oneself, and the appreciation for the journey that brought each runner to the starting line.
As runners lace up their shoes and prepare for the Edmonton Marathon, they carry with them the stories embedded in this logo. It is a reminder of the interconnectedness with the environment, the respect for those who came before, and the collective journey that unites us all. This logo is a testament to the spirit of the marathon, honoring Indigenous Peoples and Culture within Treaty Six and beyond and the shared path of every runner.
